- Swab cleaning
Stainless Restoration Ltd has really made its mark in this
particular field of cleaning requiring a particular understanding
of the nature and origin of the "enemy" at hand.
We have undertaken a wide range of cleaning operations for
the Pharmaceutical industry from Glass lined vessels to enormous
bulk storage tank made of stainless steel to detailed fabrications
like "glove boxes" and Powder handling equipment.
The particularly high level of cleanliness required in this
area of cleaning requires a knowledge of not only the nature
and origin of the dirt but also the limitations of the techniques
used and the types of surfaces - Ra um values.
FAQ
Q: Why SWAB clean?
A: Swab cleaning, according to ASTM A380,
is an inspection test that can be called upon by the purchaser
of the equipment (fabrication / manufactured item) to assess
the cleanliness and suitability of its "product contact
surface" for its intended purpose, therefore eliminating
the risk of contaminating the final product.
Q: What does it involve?
A: The actual test involves the wiping of
the "product contact surface" with a white lint
free cloth which has been moistened in a suitable solvent(s)
- See technical desk for help on choice of solvent. If the
cloth shows traces of dirt that has been collected from the
surface then this is regarded as failed.
Q: Is the test dangerous?
A: The actual solvents used are toxic and
also flammable therefore care should be taken to ware the
correct Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE). Care should
also be taken when working in confined spaces since sources
of ignition may set fire to our even cause explosion. As with
all chemicals care should be taken and the Manufacturers Safety
Data (MSD) sheets should be read first.
